Munnar Solo Travelogue

A Peaceful Journey Through Misty Hills

Munnar With Love from Vivek

By Vivek G

Want to escape from your tension and worries? A trip to Munnar could be the perfect solution. Stay there for 3-4 days and return back with a calm mind.

Every year, I visit Munnar and typically stay for about four days. Having explored various parts of Kerala, I can confidently say that Munnar is the most beautiful place in the state. What attracts me to Munnar is its unique climate, serene environment, and breathtaking beauty among the hills.

I usually begin my trip to Munnar early in the morning from Ernakulam. The four-hour journey is truly amazing, with scenic views of lush green hills and tea plantations along the way. Upon reaching Munnar, I immediately check in to a hotel and freshen up. I then head out to a local restaurant for a meal—most often enjoying Chapatti with Chicken Curry. After that satisfying meal, I fall into a deep sleep, ready for the adventures that lie ahead.

I wake up in the evening to the soothing sounds of music or mantras from a nearby temple or the gentle ringing of bells from a church at the city center. Depending on my mood, I go to either the temple or the church and stay until the ceremony is over. Afterward, I take a leisurely walk along the winding roads amidst the tea estates, soaking in nature's beauty.

As darkness sets in, I visit Thattukada for some hot porotta and spicy meat masala, a local delicacy that never disappoints. Later, I purchase a bottle of alcohol-free beer and a packet of salted cashew nuts from a nearby store before heading back to my room. Once settled in, I pour myself a glass of beer, enjoy it with the cashews, and listen to music on the TV. It takes about an hour to finish a bottle before I drift off to sleep, often still in my clothes. If I wake up during the night feeling chilly, I wrap myself in the hotel blanket and quickly return to sleep until I choose to awaken.

During my trips to Munnar, I consciously avoid newspapers and news channels that deliver disturbing stories. There's no strict schedule; I rarely check my watch and prefer to switch off my mobile phone. This disconnection enhances my sense of freedom and relaxation.

Munnar offers numerous picnic spots that are best enjoyed with company. Some notable places include Mattupetti Lake, known for its serene waters and boating opportunities, and Bodimettu, which features picturesque landscapes ideal for photography. These locations are perfect for exploration when accompanied by friends or family.

I relish my time in Munnar, embracing a carefree lifestyle for those few days each year. This experience leaves me feeling refreshed and revitalized.

I often recommend Munnar to my friends, and most of them enjoy their trips just as much as I do. Wishing you a wonderful time in this beautiful hill station!
